Just How Crucial Is Testosterone When Bodybuilding?
Testosterone plays an instrumental role in male development from a young age. Produced by the leydig cells in the testes, testosterone belongs to the androgen class of hormones and assists with hair growth, sperm formation, growth of the genitals during puberty, sustenance of high a libido, increase in muscle protein and improved metabolic rate.
This powerful hormone is the key to building and maintaining strong muscles, increasing strength and improving endurance. Testosterone is responsible for muscle size and growth in men, and differences in testosterone levels can even explain why some people are elite athletes and others are not.

This, therefore, makes optimal testosterone levels pivotal to successful bodybuilding.
Not everyone is blessed with sky high testosterone levels however; so many athletes and bodybuilders choose to boost their natural testosterone levels with a supplement or booster.
The Older Man
Similarly, natural testosterone levels begin to decline in men after the age of 30, making it difficult for older bodybuilders to build and maintain muscle mass. Fortunately, there are myriad supplements out there that work to replace and boost testosterone, making building muscle a possibility for men without naturally high testosterone levels.
These contain a number of natural ingredients to promote high testosterone levels, support performance and boost muscle growth. They do this is one of two ways: by increasing the body’s production of testosterone or by freeing up existing testosterone in the body which is bound and inactive.
Let’s explain point two – some people may already have a sufficient amount of testosterone in their system but it may not be available for muscle building as its bound by sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), meaning that it is in your system, but is inactive.
